The Monastery Excursion Egypt is a full day excursion by bus where you visit the oldest monasteries of Christianity.

Visiting the actual monasteries also includes visiting the bakeries and mills belonging to the monastery. These helped the local monks to lead a self-sufficient life. In addition, each monastery has numerous churches.

The heart of the monastery of St. Antonius is the Antonius Church inside. This sacred building has its origins as early as the 6th century. However, most parts of the monastery date from the 10th century. This also includes the numerous frescoes inside the buildings.

Tour Details:

1. St. Anthony Monastery Egypt and St. Paul Monastery Egypt – the procedure
2. Travelling Egypt will pick you up from your hotel early in the morning around 04:00 am. Enjoy driving on newly built roads through the desert in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle. After about 2 hours drive we have already reached the monastery of St. Antonius.
3. Here at the monastery lived a hermit on a 680 meter high mountain in a cave. This is more than 1600 years ago. You can get to this cave via a staircase with 1000 steps.
4. In this cave you can admire the drawings and ancient writings of the hermit Antonius. From up there you also have a wonderful view of the surrounding mountains, the sea and the desert.
5. We then continue our journey through a rough valley and reach the monastery of St. Paul. The monastery got its name from its location, as it was built on the cave of Paul, a Christian hermit. This died in the 4th century.
6. Following the visits to the Monastery of St. Anthony Egypt and the Monastery of St. Paul Egypt, we will drive you to an authentic restaurant where you will enjoy a delicious local lunch.
7. After dinner we go home to your hotel and on the way back we review the impressions of the visits to the Coptic monasteries in Egypt.
8. We reach your hotel around 5:00 p.m.
